FORMER WEST: Documents, Constellations, Prospects brings together propositions in the form of artworks, discussions, presentations, rehearsals, performances, dialogues, and screenings, which are further explored through temporary “hangings” with works by artists such as Július Koller (Bratislava), Aernout Mik (Amsterdam), Nástio Mosquito (Luanda), Christoph Schlingensief (Berlin), and artists’ collective Chto Delat?/What is to be done? (St. Petersburg) among others. These makeshift compositions offer speculative documents and prospects on global histories taking 1989 and the present moment as markers in thinking “former West” in relation to the world, in order to seek meaningful ways of engaging with the future.

opening or event start 15.03.2013 19:00
Mariel Poppe presents in the Gewächshaus a row of architectuel stone objects. Build with minature bricks, there are star shaped objects, which arms are directed like compass needles in the different cardinal directions. They are layed cross shaped and grow regularly like crystals, slowly and smoothly from the middle in every direction. Through the staggered arrangement of the bricks rhytmical stair structures and symmetrical arrangement arises in spatial extend. Like scales the modular elements are arranged to a grewn architecture, that is not ready and finished, but stays possible to extend. Meanwhile the bricks as the oldest prefabricated constructual element guides into an archaic past of ruined castles, that have cavelike openings and secret hollows. With crystal bricks Mariel Poppe shows us possible architectual relicts of our present civilisation.

3.11 - Two years after the disaster.
In the Buddhist thought, this year would be the third "death anniversary". The so-called 三回忌 (sankaiki = third death anniversary) is a special occasion to pray.
We are very pleased to announce to you that we will be hosting "Requiem" with the help of the Japanese Embassy in Berlin, Germany!
Performend by CreaTraD
CreaTraD is a very unique trio composed of three young Japanese musicians. While each of them is one of the most impressive young leaders in their respective field, they are trying to create a very new co-existing way of traditional and modern art.
