Auguststrasse in Berlin Mitte is a narrow street that has been the city’s cultural core for many years. Numerous galleries -big or small, trendy and cozy cafes and shops are sprawled over this block and in 2012, with the purpose to create a communicative space for art lovers, Studio IAAN was established on this very street. Studio IAAN has now became a ‘home’ for artists and students who are living or studying in Berlin.
Catching up with Berlin’s alternative art scene, this article writes about SAVVY Contemporary, District Berlin and Studio IAAN as art spaces which have shown qualitative improvement despite their small scale or infrastructure. Also introduced are Berlin based foreign artists and curators.
DIFFERENT NOT DIFFERENT is a program organized by studio IAAN with a purpose to encourage self-expression for young people especially juveniles, who come from a multi-cultural family or a migrant background.
In this art and education program, voluntary artists adolescents meet at studio IAAN and team up. learning how to communicate through art.
studio IAAN was constructed for various artistic contents for the purpose of communication between arts and architecture and as a new artistic space to build culture and seek for a network of artists.
